Why It Rocks

  1. Maniac Mansion was an influencial game which deconstructed the gameplay and mechanics of the graphic adventure genre.
  2. The game removed Syntax Guessing, a major problem encountered in text-based games. This allowed gamers to focus on the story and puzzles, which provided a better experience overall.
  3. The game is more easy to understand and play than those which came before.
  4. Incredibly ambitious and ahead of its time regarding its writing, mechanics, story, and characters.
  5. The game went against the standard 'damsel in distress' stereotype that was common in video games at that time by including central characters that are female.
  6. It's one of the most intricate and important adventure games ever made.
  7. Maniac Mansion is one of the few Nintendo games from that era that's not a first party game which has inspired a huge community outside of playing the game itself, which includes tones of fanart, tentacle themed cosplay, and even a trailer for a fictitious live action film adaptation.
  8. Decent graphics, for its time, and for the type of game that it is.
  9. Good sound, for its time, and for the type of game that it is.
